Your first assignment is to write an informative essay telling me about your math background and your thoughts, feelings, and opinions about math, and your expectations and feelings about this class specifically.
You should include what math classes you have taken, and how long it has been since you had a math class. Mention what you particularly enjoyed and what you disliked. Is there a pattern? Like you liked pictures but not equations, or you hated all math after you had a bad experience with your seventh grade math teacher?
Write about how you best learn mathematics. What helps you learn the material, and what is not helpful? What are sources for anxiety for you in mathematics? Describe what your strategy for success in this class will be.
Spelling and grammar will count, so be careful about that. Minimum length is 3 pages of double-spaced 12 point text (not counting the header and name at the top of the first page). No cover sheet is necessary.
