I grew up in Provo, Utah. I attended Timpview High School. I was a student in the Math Department at Brigham Young University. I served an LDS (a.k.a. Mormon) mission in northern Italy for two years. I was a graduate student in the Math Department and a post-doc in the Program in Computing at UCLA. I was married in 1992. The family has grown since then. My wife is a violist in the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. We live in La Crescenta, California.
